Walt Disney Concert Hall

minecraft trade hall design

While segregating villagers into types, we are not considering villagers from various types of Minecraft villages. Even though they appear distinct, their differences are only visual. Instead, we are focusing on villagers holding a diverse types of jobs. Each job enables the villagers to offer unique trade deals to the players. Once a fresh villager has been placed into their new spot in the hall, it is possible to lock in a trade that is desirable. If a trade is undesirable, reset trades by breaking and replacing the villager's job block.

The Ultimate Trading Hall V1

Minecraft is one of the most resource-focused sandbox games out there. It needs you to explore an almost limitless world with the hopes of finding useful items. Though, what if you could buy or exchange items to get what you want without leaving your base? It is the perfect supermarket alternative in Minecraft to take care of your major needs. So, let’s figure out how to make a Minecraft villager trading hall and bid farewell to resource-hunting.

Complete the Roof and then Break the Temporary Dirt Roof

Then, dig multiple 2 blocks long and 5-block-deep pits. We suggest you dig at least 5 such pits at a 1-block distance from each other. Designs come in all shapes and sizes, but they all have the same basic parts, as described above.

Items Required to Make Villager Trading Hall

Don't break all boats out at once because some may stack and drop in the wrong place. Java 1.16 design that is extremely easy to build and expand. Once a villager is discarded, it is up to the player to do what they want with them. The most common thing to do is move the discarded villagers into one area, where they are killed by whatever means suits the player. It is not recommended to kill them manually, because that will lower the player's popularity, and if the popularity gets too low, any iron golems of that village become hostile toward that player.

The Music Center Presents Music off the Wall

To begin, create a new tunnel towards the job site blocks at a 1-block gap. This tunnel should be four blocks deep and two blocks wide. After placing the Redstone dust, put the various job site blocks on top of the dust in each cavity. You can replace the block as per your trading requirements later.

Once your villagers have been turned into zombie villagers, it’s time to cure them to secure better trade deals. For that, you first need to throw a splash potion of weakness on each of the zombie villagers. The loudness affects the user in the building, the specific room and the shape. Even back to the history in the period of Catholicism, the magnificent vaulted ceilings of the Church were also built to provide low reverberation time for sound. All these shows the essential of aural perception in every part of the architecture since ancient times. Villager trading halls maximize the number of villagers that can be easily reached.

How Does Villager Trading Work in Minecraft

An alternative to killing the discarded villagers is to store them for an iron golem farm, put them into a village, or put them to work in farms and breeders. This discarding mechanism must be able to remove the villager from the cell and then open it up to allow for more villagers to drop in. This paper explores the development of the ancient theater to the design that is used on the theater today.

Finally once on the 26th floor, access to the 27th can be reached by stairs or one more elevator. Public restrooms are located on the 3rd and 26th floor. You should break a boat, wait until a villager gets to their outpost, then break another one.

Next up you'll want to cover the whole area with wooden planks above the Redstone dust. You can do this by placing a single plank above one Redstone dust, then connecting from it you'll cover the whole 2-block area with the in-betweens from the pistons. Then, place a dark oak trapdoor at the top part of each newly created opening. This trapdoor, when closed, should leave the sticky piston inaccessible to players and other mobs of similar height. Next, replace one of the base blocks of the pit with a sticky piston facing upwards and put a piece of Redstone dust on top of the other block. If you want to dig deeper, you can use our dedicated guide to Minecraft villager jobs and find out everything each one of them has to offer.

So, you first need to turn the villager into a zombie and then kill it. Later, you can open the top of its chamber to get a new villager in its place. First, make sure there’s a zombie in the tunnel behind the villagers.

More advanced designs can include areas for players to reroll trades or permanently reduce their costs by zombifying and curing them. Now comes the more interesting part which you'll want to start by placing and opening trap doors right next to each piston on the lower wooden plank row. Then depending on what type of villagers you want, place workstations next to the pistons on the platform we built from the previous step. First, cover the empty space on top of villagers’ heads and place a torch on top of the job site block.

To quiet outside noise and prevent transmission of vibrations from the Concert Hall, REDCAT is built as a steel box-within-a box, with the interior box floating on 72 special rubber pads. Designed by architect Frank Gehry, The Music Center’s Walt Disney Concert Hall (Concert Hall) opened in 2003 as the newest of The Music Center’s four venues. Now, it’s time to get the villagers in their chambers. We suggest you push them into the pit or destroy all existing job site blocks within a 64 blocks area. If there are no other job site blocks nearby, the villagers will willingly jump into the pits with job site blocks.

More than 6,000 panels create the curving stainless steel skin of the Concert Hall’s exterior. Resembling silver sails, the Concert Hall’s design plays off the bowed cornice of The Music Center’s Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, forging a link between the old and the new. The Observation Deck or Tom Bradley Tower located on the 27th floor is open to the public. Access to City Hall is located off of Main St. The rotunda is located on the 3rd floor accessible by all elevators. To access the Tom Bradley Tower requires the “Express Car Only” for floors 1, 3, and 10 through 22 elevators. Once on the 22nd floor transition to the Gold 22 thru 26 elevator bank.

The easiest way to do it is to make the zombie follow you through one entrance of the tunnel while you get out from a temporary second entrance. Finally, cover the roof of the tunnel with deepslate slabs (or any other solid blocks) and place two openable dark oak trapdoors on the staircase. Moreover, these trades, like the real world, are somewhat negotiable. Some villagers sell expensive stuff while others can give you a better deal on the same item. Not to forget, the players’ actions can also increase or decrease the price of certain trades. First, let’s explore the various types of villagers in Minecraft.

Its entrance includes a marquee of curvilinear stainless steel and leads directly into an expansive multi-use space that includes a lobby and lounge for meetings, receptions and post-performance events. The REDCAT stage can be transformed into several configurations, from thrust and end stage to completely in the round. The performance space is lined with hinged panels, each with finished wood on one side and sound-absorbent material on the other.

It'll become much clearer what you need to do below. The easiest way to get new trades is to replace the job site block. You can do it by breaking and placing it multiple times. Then, feed each of them a golden apple to turn them back into regular villagers. The zombie villager will start shaking before the transition happens.

In this Texas bedroom designed by Marie Flanagan, whites, tans, and soft grays create a serene space. The quickest way to give your traditional bedroom decor an upgrade to a hotel feel is to keep things symmetrical. Match your bedside tables, the bedside lights, and the cushions too, just double up on everything — making this one of the easiest bedroom ideas. This will add a sense of balance to your room, plus it all just feels fancier.

Bedroom Apartment Design

Whether used to curl up with a good book before bed or to enjoy aerial views of a garden, adding a window seat in a bedroom is a brilliant way to enhance a restful sanctuary. If created by a bespoke joiner, the seat can be fitted perfectly around the architecture but can also be designed with a chest underneath and a lift up lid in order for it to double as a bedroom storage idea. Perhaps the ultimate in luxury bedroom ideas, an ensuite bathroom is the perfect addition to a restful sanctuary, allowing you to bathe, relax and unwind for bed in the privacy of a self-contained space. Take care to create a bedroom layout where the furniture does not obscure or obstruct the window – and choose window treatments that can easily be pulled back. This bedroom by interior designer and architect Jeffrey Dungan is full of rich texture and pattern yet still remains neutral and calming.

This blogger upgraded her simple bedroom dresser using scrap paper, Plaid Royal Coat Decoupage and a blueprint copy of one of her favorite photos. It's a project you can try at home for less, as only five materials are needed. If you prefer warmth over cool tones, layer in earthy tones like beige, brown and tannish pinks. Here, designer Lindye Galloway infuses texture, warm woods and a floral wallpapered accent wall to balance the space. Designer Neal Beckstedt got creative in a New York City studio too small to even fit a pullout sofa. He designed a full-sized Murphy bed that folds up flush with the cabinets, clearing up the walkway for "easy access to the adjoining bathroom," he says.

In artist Cindy Sherman’s Hamptons primary bedroom, designer Billy Cotton used a bright cobalt and soft white. From wallpaper to bedding and curtains, there are plenty of places to add pattern in a primary bedroom. Start small with patterned throw pillows or go all out with floor to ceiling prints, as Miles Redd did in this Connecticut home. This New York City bedroom, designed by Apparatus CEO and cofounder Gabriel Hendifar, is dressed with distinctive works of art and a warm color palette. The latter is achieved through the brass in the pendant by Apparatus, the rosy bedcover from Zak + Fox, and natural light galore. In this kids’ bedroom designed by ELLE DECOR A-List designer Robert Couturier, a soft pink canopy graces the bed, creating a sense of lighthearted fun as well as elegant style.

Here, Peter Pennoyer and Katie Ridder mixed Holland & Sherry textiles with a vintage Japanese obi, rounding the space out with more traditional pieces like the antique Murano chandelier. You want a small home office to fit seamlessly into your bedroom decor, so pick furniture and accessories that match the room's style. Let's be honest, you don't want a massive ergonomic office chair and a huge cumbersome desk, so go for slimline, stylish office furniture that could even double up as a dressing table. If you are squeezed for space in the rest of your house, or rent a room and need to create a modern home office idea, the bedroom is the place to do it.

A great option is to buy one-of-a-kind consignment pieces from places like Arhaus, Restoration Hardware, or Crate & Barrel (i.e. an upholstered loveseat, a vanity, an armoire, etc). Very much like a feature/focal point, a strong decorative piece will anchor any room. Finish the space with nature-centric imagery (i.e. topography, flora, fauna, and the elements) that will lend well to your goal of continuity throughout the home.

The best decorative ideas for bedrooms needn't be complicated and fussy. Floorboards are a really practical choice in a bedroom — they are easy to keep clean, work with any style, and of course look lovely. If you are concerned about keeping the room warm, then rugs are the answer.

In Rowe’s New York City apartment, the “office” simply pushes up against the living room sofa. Stacks of books and flower arrangements make it feel like a chic console table, while a lamp—conveniently—lights both the desk and those curled up on the couch. Demitri loves to bring a modern approach to interiors, working globally with clients from anywhere, especially an eclectic approach. While his partner is a Golden Globe-winning director, this doesn’t get in the way of the work and Demitri’s name himself. He has collaborated with some of the biggest stars out there, from Paul McCartney, Cher, and Tina Turner, so it’s no wonder why so many big-name clients are lined up to taste the creativity that Demitri serves.

The accomplished artist, architect, and interior designer, Rodrigo Vargas founded RVD in 2009. Today a thriving international, full-service interior design firm with a diverse and talented team. RVD creates award-winning design concepts for Five-Star luxury hotels and resorts, multifamily real estate projects, restaurants, and high-end residential projects worldwide. Great design has the power to promote a positive mood (check out this scientific study and this survey for proof!). And since your bedroom is where you go to rest and decompress, it should definitely be designed to help you do just that.

Bedroom design matters — a thoughtfully decorated interior can make it easier to decompress and sleep through the night. Even if your space is small, your bedroom should feel like a personal sanctuary defined by the colors, textures and furniture that aid in relaxation. Regardless of your design style — farmhouse, modern, rustic, boho and more — this roundup of the best bedroom ideas will help craft your dream retreat. Bedroom decor ideas depend largely on how you will use your room. Do you have roommates who hog the common areas, leading you to spend most of your time in your bedroom, asleep or not? Or do you spend a lot of time elsewhere in your home and hope for your bedroom to be a nighttime only oasis?

Game Design Careers

A creative content specialization includes coursework in modeling and animation, advanced audio production and techniques, and entertainment media production. Like any professional field, careers in game design allow you to specialize. The following specializations represent just a few that programs may offer.

Is game design a high-paying job?

Widely considered to be the bottom rung of the production ladder despite the essential service they provide to the team. Most studios are set up by a designer, but where there is a larger team there is always space for another. Big studios are hiring more junior designers than ever, both for new IP and to add insight to existing franchises. Building and experimenting with your own games can be a fantastic way to jump right into the deep end of game design.

Video game designer education and training

While it is not a requirement to hold a bachelor’s degree to become an app developer, it will improve your chances of gaining employment. App developers typically hold degrees in computer science or software engineering. Family-owned, this private university serves more than 7,000 students, making it one of the nation’s largest independent art and design schools.

Entry-Level Designer/Planner

Your job should issue you with a contract (if they don’t, pressure them for one), which you will need to sign prior to commencing employment. Again, there is a skill to taking a technical interview; be positive but don’t boast, and don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it (or for clarification if the question is unclear). You’ll probably go through a lot of screenings in your career, and there is a knack to them; you can practice many examples for free online.

Basic math and logic are essential as they underpin fundamental gaming principles. A firm grasp of geometry and calculus can be useful for things like physics engines or 3D graphics, particularly for certain games. That being said, the level of mathematics required can vary widely depending on the specific role and game. Understanding your players and their motivations is vital in game design. You should strongly grasp elements like reward systems, difficulty balancing, and player progression.

Some of the following careers apply to career opportunities in computer networking, defense, manufacturing, and consulting. Game development companies hire game testers to identify issues that relate to gameplay, storytelling, and technical glitches. A game tester may play the same segment dozens of times during the process, responding to developers' changes after each playthrough. He’s utilized his web dev skills and desire to help others by creating a resource where expert game designers can share what they’ve learned with the next generation of aspiring game makers. SIGCHI is a global organization of professionals who work with computers daily, including graphic and game designers.

What jobs can game designers do?

Amy Boyington is an Ohio-based freelance writer with degrees in English and education. As a lifelong learner herself, Amy enjoys researching and writing about colleges, degrees, and careers to help others navigate their educational paths. Jobs quickly started another firm, NeXT Inc., designing powerful workstation computers for the education market. His funding partners included Texan entrepreneur Ross Perot and Canon Inc., a Japanese electronics company. Although the NeXT computer was notable for its engineering design, it was eclipsed by less costly computers from competitors such as Sun Microsystems, Inc.

Video game designers combine storytelling, visual design, and technology to create player experiences for gaming consoles and computers. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) includes video game designers in the job category multimedia artists and animators, which has an average annual US salary of $78,790. The BLS anticipates 5 percent growth for this field between 2021 to 2031, on par with the national average for all jobs [1].

Indie Game Studios

Game designers typically work in an office environment, often with a team of other designers and developers. Depending on the size of the project and the organization, a team might include graphic artists, writers, and programmers. Such a work environment encourages regular collaboration and communication, which is crucial in realizing a unified vision for a game.

To become a game developer you don’t need a degree but it will give you an advantage in the job market. The School of the Arts and Architecture (UCLA Arts) at University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) is home to the Department of Design Media Arts (DMA). The department offers several multidisciplinary programs suitable for individuals seeking careers in game design. The undergraduate program explores everything from interactivity and motion to video and game design. Sample courses include 3D Modeling and Motion, Game Design, Tangible Media, Word + Image, and Video. DMA BFA students will complete a final project—the Senior Project—in Interactivity and Games, Video and Animation, or Visual Communication and Image.

These volumes emphasize the importance of various skill sets, including programming, storyboarding, illustration, and marketing. Some of these authors are responsible for penning stories for some of the most popular modern video games. Many professionals in different fields who have a passion for gaming consider switching careers. Typical transitions involve people who have many of the same skills that game design careers require. Careers that most closely relate to game design include computer programming and illustration. Graphic designers use their artistic skills to make a video game visually appealing and engaging to audiences.

Press fine-tuned his list, disclosed the name of his client, and flew to Huntsville for a series of meetings, still skeptical. Across the table sat Battle, the head of the Chamber of Commerce and the state’s economic-development director. The governor’s office would give Remington a significant abatement of their income tax for 10 years. The Tennessee Valley Authority would provide discounted electricity.

The Remington factory was housed in a gray building the size of 14 football fields set back behind fencing topped with razor wire. Classes for new hires were held three days a week, every week. If Press had every reason to send his client south, though, he lacked any special affection for Huntsville. For one thing, he explained to me, the airport had a shortage of worthwhile direct flights. For another, the technical labor pool was limited compared with those of larger cities.

The entities were related but — and this was crucial — each could borrow money independently. In 2010, Cerberus had the holding company borrow $225 million from an undisclosed group of lenders, most likely hedge funds. Because this loan was risky — the lenders would be paid only if Remington made a lot of money or was sold — the holding company offered a generous interest rate of around 11 percent, much higher than a typical corporate loan. When the interest payments were due, the holding company paid them not in cash but with paid-in-kind notes, that is, with more debt. The dream was lofty and ambitious, and Huntsville was only a piece of it. Cerberus had been trying for years to assemble a dominant American gun company. First, in 2006, it purchased Bushmaster, known for its AR-15-style rifles. Then it paid $118 million in cash for Remington and assumed the company’s debt. Other acquisitions followed, until by 2013, 18 businesses were rolled up together under Cerberus’s roof. One of Kollitides’s jobs was to oversee the necessary layoffs.

There is also a lively bronze cast in 1916 on display titled ‘Coming Through The Rye’ which depicts four cowboys galloping on horseback, guns drawn and aloft in a rowdy depiction of life on the range. The way people in 2008 talked about “credit default swaps” as a symbol of Wall Street lunacy, people in the early 1990s talked about leveraged buyouts. Faced with all this bad publicity, Wall Street decided it had only one option. Stephen Feinberg founded Cerberus in 1992 as the euphemism “private equity” was coming into currency.

About a year after the factory opened, leaders in Huntsville’s black community, including Johnson, began to hear reports from inside. Johnson was disappointed but not surprised to learn from his parishioners that on the Remington line, the usual racial divisions manifested. Most of the line workers were black, whereas most of the managers and engineers were white. Though the company was supposed to be hiring hundreds of people, workers said that the line appeared suspiciously sparse.

Because the operating company borrowed the money with a normal loan — and not with PIK notes — interest payments were required in cash. Suddenly Remington was carrying hundreds of millions of dollars in debt that, if it could not be paid, would cause the business to go bankrupt. I asked Gustavo Schwed, a professor of private equity at New York University who spent 24 years in the industry, to help me review the documents.

The 2-story rectangular brick building, constructed to expand Eastwick, reflected the growing importance of Remington to automobile sales and service in the 1920s. Directories referred to the building as the "Dodge Maintenance Building" in the late 1920s, but the design makes clear that it was always intended to work as a showroom as well. As well as their own collection of Remington sketches, prints, paintings, and sculptures they also curated the traveling exhibit ‘Go West!

Alabama Industrial Development Training, a state agency, would train Remington’s workers free, as it had done for 800,000 others at big-name companies in Alabama, like Boeing, Raytheon and Mercedes. Since 1965 Huntsville’s schools have been under a federal desegregation order, which compels school districts to remedy race-based inequality.

In Ilion, where Remington has operated for 191 years on the same site — unfinished weapons had to travel from one brick building to the next — 231 people lost their jobs. There were 160 layoffs at Montana Rifleman in Kalispell, Mont. Because private-equity firms appear frequently as villains in the press, many people assume that they cater mostly to the superrich, earning high returns on investments for billionaire clients.

Even so, for the firm, at least, the decade-long saga had been profitable. We were sitting in her apartment last October when her cellphone rang. “’Cause I owe on the car.” She pressed decline. The fingers of her left hand returned to her right wrist and massaged it. Both spaces are managed by Seawall, but the Cahoots Brothers building is owned by Johns Hopkins. 29th St., is getting renovated — outfitted with gas and a hood for the kitchen — but should be ready next year, Ilardo said.

Under the direction of its star financier, Michael Milken, the firm developed a way to help clients purchase whole companies using high-interest loans — a practice mainstream investment banks found far too risky to imitate. Milken could whip together nine figures for a client just by picking up the phone. The client took the borrowed cash, bought an obscure or struggling company, and tried either to renovate it or to stamp out costs — often through layoffs — and make it profitable.

Schwed pored over the many years of financial data and located two separate debt transactions, one of which was so esoteric I would never even have known to look for it. Together, these transactions explained not just the mysterious 2012 loan but, indirectly, the way the deal finally unraveled. There was, however, a hidden, vaguely mysterious quirk of the company’s finances. In 2012, more or less in the middle of the best climate for gun makers in a generation, America’s oldest continually operating manufacturer abruptly, and for no easily discernible reason, borrowed hundreds of millions of dollars.

Once you’ve done easy flowers on a solid base a few times, you might be looking to level up your manicure. Since the pattern is a little busy, don’t paint every nail with plaid; leave a couple solid. These nails feel chic and modern with their neutral color palette. If you’re not in the mood for bright florals, you can still have a sweet white flower on a nude and pink background. Once you feel confident with polka dots and french tips and flowers, take them to the next level and combine them! No royalty would love to have ugly chipped looking nails!

What goes better with bright blue skies than rainbows and flowers? This funky retro mix of nails is so much fun, and you can do it with whatever color scheme you want. The red background makes the yellow-orange stems and white flowers pop. Use a nail tool to create some negative space in the middle of the flower to make it look like a hibiscus for the Hawaiian flower look. This colorful manicure takes a little more precision than some of the others, but it has a big impact!

Color Camp used to have an in-person salon but is now selling all of its products online. They sell a variety of high-quality, press-on nails that will make you feel like you just stepped out of the salon in the comfort of your own home. Nail art here starts at $4 a nail and always comes out dope. Oh, and the atmosphere of salon itself is as fly as the art that comes out it—modern white walls splashed with pastel tie-dye and bright blue seating.

By drawing a crown and white rhinestones to the crown you’re giving a boring monochromatic nail design an edgy look. Founder Sarah Gibson Tuttle named this beloved L.A. Salon after her great-grandmother and her grandmother—and from its name to its décor, you can tell the place has cozy, familial vibes. A pretty pink is the perfect backdrop for some large white flowers. Mix it up and paint half the flower on different parts of each nail. This design keeps it interesting by switching up which color is used for the base and which is used for the flowers on some of the nails!

It’s a party on your nails with this colorful flower manicure! This is such a simple design if you just have a dotting tool. You could even amp up the color explosion even more with a bright backdrop, but this light neutral one is lovely too.

The sesame chicken was fine, with lightly breaded pieces of white and dark meat, and the sweet potatoes that accompanied them were definitely the hit of the evening for all of us. They were beautifully caramelized from the sesame sauce, and there were plenty for me to take a turn and share. However, the restaurant is, without questions, a San Francisco experience. It’s one of those restaurants that once-a-year visitors look forward to, reveling in the sometimes abrupt treatment received from the wait staff. Whether you are a staunch foodie—someone who lives to eat—or an everyday Joe or Jane who simply eats to live (no disrespect intended), everyone knows that San Francisco is an incredible gastronomic playground for the palate.

Fang says it was a surprise to her that her father took to filming quite easily. The filming took place in early summer 2022, five days a week, for six weeks. Fang said she didn’t want to worry her dad about the schedule and resisted briefing him too much on what would happen during the shoots. “The producers were like, ‘Oh my god, your dad’s the best. In 1988, Peter and Lily Fang opened House of Nanking at 919 Kearny Street in San Francisco where Chinatown, the Financial District and Little Italy collide.

They started out in the restaurant industry working in various restaurants as servers to make ends meet. Before Peter immigrated to the U.S., he had a passion for cooking and would spend hours watching chefs cook at his favorite food stalls mesmerized by their methods of preparing simple and delicious comfort food. Cooking and entertaining back at home in Shanghai were some of his most fond memories, and he wanted to recreate that feeling by opening his own restaurant one day. Chef Peter Fang’s cooking started to evolve when he began experimenting with traditional dishes and fusing them with local ingredients that he loved.

No matter what type of food you have a hankering for, you will find it here – in spades. But when it comes to authentic Shanghainese cooking, people drive from all over the state to dine at the House of Nanking. Chef Kathy Fang grew up in the kitchen of House of Nanking where she discovered her own passion for cooking. She has emerged from her renowned culinary heritage to blaze her own trail in the industry. After receiving her formal training at the esteemed Le Cordon Bleu Culinary School, Kathy went on to open Fang restaurant with her father in the SoMa district of San Francisco in 2009.Looking to order from House of Nanking? Kathy has followed in the footsteps of her father and has become a notable chef in her own right, appearing on various television shows and won the title of Chopped Champion twice on the Food Network. Peter also hired more employees and a sous chef to help him crank out more dishes. To this day, we are the same size as we were when we expanded and have maintained lines outside of the restaurant for over 30 years, which is really incredible in a city where restaurant competition is notoriously high.

The food is Hunan style, with a little heat and a nice presentation. The hot tea was a flowering jasmine variety complete with the bloom left in the bottom of the large, glass cup, ready to remind you of all its herbal and antioxidant health benefits. Steamed rice was available on the side, but, interestingly, chop sticks were not readily available—lending credence to the idea of this being a place more suited to the tourists than to the authentic locals in the heart of Chinatown. House of Nanking has been open for over three decades now and Peter and Lily still run the business as husband and wife with the addition of their daughter, Chef Kathy Fang.

After spending close to 15 years in the House of Nanking kitchen, as a child and teenager in between school, Kathy naturally developed a passion for her family’s business and most importantly, for cooking. She now helps manage the restaurant while her mother Lily at the age of 71 still works every single day. Peter now splits his time between running House of Nanking and Fang, the sister restaurant he opened in San Francisco with Kathy in 2009 who serves as Executive Chef. Together they moved from Shanghai to San Francisco in 1980 with little money and knowing minimal English.

Chef Kathy Fang never set out to star in a reality TV show, let alone one centered around the intricacies of running her family’s popular restaurants House of Nanking and Fang. If anything, she says, she was a fan of early food TV shows, made in the “stand and stir” format of Giada at Home with chef Giada De Laurentiis, for instance. But when she pitched a show like that to TV producers, they told her that wasn’t the hot format anymore. So Fang wound up doing the circuit, becoming a two-time Chopped winner, along with making a number of appearances on Beat Bobby Flay, Guy’s Grocery Games, and Alex vs. America. In between, producers approached her about doing other reality shows, but nothing panned out.

Restaurants close faster than they can open, and yet new ones pop up relentlessly, constantly challenging the old places that have been holding on since the beginning. The noodles were, indeed, worth ordering, with full garlic flavor and just the right texture.
